The 2008 Memorial Day Committee will host the 108th Annual Memorial Celebration at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Monday, May 26 at 10 a.m.
The ceremony honors men and women in the Armed Forces who have served and died for our country.
Last year retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Bob Cardenas, a speaker at the event, said “We gather here each year to honor our fallen heroes. Approximately 71,000 heroes are buried at this cemetery alone.”
People from all over the area come to pay their respects, many who served in the Armed Forces, or have family members who did.
The spokespeople for the event consisted of active-duty and retired military, and the committee members for the event. They all spoke of the legacy that was left behind by the men and women who fought for their freedom.
“The freedom we have in America is not free,” said Commander, Navy Region Southwest Rear Adm. Leendert R. Hering Sr. “Sacrifice means service. The men and women of the Armed Forces are the guiding light of this great country. God bless the Armed Forces, God bless San Diego, and God bless America.”
