Navy's Director of Personnel, Plans and Policy: 'Future of officer bonuses is bright'
2/2/2010
WASHINGTON (NNS) -- In a podcast released Feb. 1, the Navy's Director of Personnel, Plans and Policy explained changes to officer special and incentive pay and bonus programs, including recent adjustments made to the Aviation Career Continuation Pay program.
Director of Personnel, Plans and Policy Rear Adm. Dan Holloway said the future of officer bonuses is bright and the program will continue to be leveraged to provide incentive to officers with critical skills and will adapt in response to market trends and retention behavior.
Holloway also emphasized that incentive pay for critical skills is just one of the benefits naval service offers.
"The propensity to stay right now is at an all-time high," he said. "Our officers are the best in the world. We attribute that to a lot of our competitive advantages like our family readiness programs, our pay and bonuses and the intangibles like our leadership and ethos. People come to work and want to be a part of something bigger than themselves. They support our Navy mission—they believe in what we stand for."
A full and comprehensive review of special and incentive pay programs across all skills and communities is in progress.
"The end result is that the taxpayer dollar will be spent for the right reason and that is to keep the best officer with the skill sets critical to the Navy today," Holloway said.
